So my brother is thinking about picking up a 2007 Tahoe for a fun LS build, he’s contemplating on sticking with buying a junkyard 5.3L (current one has 230,000 miles) and building that up, or swapping out to a 6.2L from a Denali or Escalade. He also wants to swap out the 4l60 for a 4l80e. His reasoning is he wants a semi reliable 5-600hp, that seems it would be less stress on the 6.2L and he really likes that motor Down the road he eventually also wants to turbo it. I’ve been looking around and seen a few 5.3->6.2 swaps haven’t seen many with a 4l80 swap, and of course that Tahoe is old enough not to have the VVT setup so that whole harness might be an issue. Thoughts ideas and suggestions? His budget is $10-13,000 but trying to keep it on the low side.

With truck prices as outrageous as they are, Id be impressed if he could get a Tahoe for 10k

turbo the 5.3, it ain't gonna hurt it. I have ~204k on my gen3 5.3 and I have no issues putting 12-15psi on top off her in my 02 Tahoe

also with your gen, look at the 6L80 swap. Might be a little more straight forward to what you need

Find a 10 with 6l80 and LMG and save yourself time and money.
