What i dont understand is why GM did that on the gas trucks. I mean if they are the same trans and the diesels have 650lbtq then why cut the gas powered trucks back.

Also the hype of you need more power to make it work cant be true, 100 hp increase in the diesels kill the allison..

You need to look on e bay or cars.com.. find a 8100 suburban then take it for a test drive see how much difference there is.

I also remember a post on here that in like 05 the ratings changed on the big block trucks.

What you guys need to remember is that the Allison trans has its own computer called the TCM. The PCM doesn't control the trans like it does with the 4L60E and 4L80E. Allison has it's own programming and companies like EFI Live and HPTuners have not been able to break the codes. I can tell HPTuners to remove TM, but the TCM doesn't allow it. The Allison is a well built strong transmission and it takes a lot of power to get it to do what it does. The GM gas motors just don't have enough torque and horsepower to get through the trans to the ground. This is why the Duramax runs better then the gas with the Allison. The DMax has the power to push the power through the Allison and to the ground.

EFI Live has broke the codes! My 8.1l Ally had no problem smokin the tires. After the heads, cam, and intake it would smoke them through first and second! It was kinda fun break them loose from a 20mph roll!

This is crewcab dually. So it is a heavy m-fer. The newer Allisons are harder to tune.

A good tune will make a big difference. There was a guy on here that dropped 2 sec off his 1/4 times with CIA, tune, cam, and exhaust.
Have you thought of trying a STS Turbo?
BTW I ran a 12.44@ 108mph with no tuning done to my Ally.

We are looking at the Whipple for towing and daily driving. I have HPTuners and have tried many different tunes from the forums over there with the help of a couple of guys. The new 8.1/Allison combo is just a pain in the a-s.

Is the truck in pic under your name the one your talking about? What happened?
