I'll try to answer some of your questions since both Jason and I were involved on the install and dyno. It is necessary to install springs and I wouldn't take a chance with the factory wimpy pushrods. The Thunder Racing hardened pushrods are fairly inexpensive and good insurance IMHO.

The truck didn't really loose any bottom end torque from a S.O.T.P. standpoint. I think Geoff can create a custom TR "truck" cam to address any issues you may have from that standpoint anyway. The main point of this post was to show how easy it is to wake these trucks up... The stock cam is rather puny and I know Geoff will be throwing it on the Cam Doctor today just to see how puny it is. Email me if you would like the results and I can post them.

The more I look at this, it really isn't much different that what I am running now (LS6). Of course, we cant see the lower half of the RPMs, but as per my last dyno, these two graphs are very close. There is no doubt that that cam costs several $$$ more than the LS6. I really wish I could see those low RPMs, because that is the only thing that could be different.

My mods at this time:
Stock airbox
Borla Muffler
LS6 cam
electric fans
Hamm headers

Damn, I have never seen a cam give that much RWHP. Especially on a 325 cid motor.. I guess I need to go and dyno the cam I just installed.. looks to be really close to that one but I have a .113 LSA , .210 int./ .216 exhaust .530 int./.551 exh. in my 6 litre.. I don`t think I picked up near that much RWHP though..

BigTex,

You should have seen more gain with the LS6 cam. It is a "bigger" cam than the 212/218 truck cam. I would also be intersted to see the bottom end of both power curves...

Hey Shane,

Actually the 2001 LS6 cam that I have is 207 / 216 .525 .525 on a 116 LSA.

It looks like the major difference besides intake duration is the LS6's 116 LSA.

I have been pleased with it, but do want more torque than I have right now. I would change cams if I could find a good cam that makes more down low, without cutting out the upper RPMs completely off. I may have to get a custom grind, but don't wnat to spend the money. I may opt for a converter instead

Oops, I was thinking of the '02 LS6 cam w/.550" lift... My bad.

Will this cam work with LS6 valve springs?

this cam has .522/.529 lift so im sure it would be cutting it close since the ls6 is .525. i wonder if you can buy the 02 ls6 springs yet? i would just go ahead and buy a set of good springs for a little extra money though IMO.

If you can get '02 LS6 springs I would do that if you can't spare the cost of a set of 918's. I would personally do the 918's since it's such a pain to do springs in the truck (not as bad as an F-Bod though ) That way if you decide to step up the cam later (none of us ever do that, right? ) you'll be set on springs.
