well my truck is the 1500hd,03,285 16 tires.the thing weighs with me in it and my full tool box around 6800lb's.i'll tell you what iv'e done to it.some of the trucks iv'e raced and my thoughts on some of the power components.the first thing i did was take out the airaid tbs and drop in filter from my 2000 ecsb. this 03 was a dog stock! don't think the filter did much but the tbs perked it up a little. next in jan. of 03' i had to move my dad back from SC. the hppg 111 came 4 days before! good thing because i never would have made it up those mini mount.in virginia towing a 20' car trailer loaded with furniture going 80 mph.in the spring came the edelbrock headers and gms maf sen.and also a home made ram air system.
well one night in a really monsoon like rain i just happened to meet one of those ugly hemi's.the light changed and we're off!he couldn't pull me and i couldn't get any traction!stupid me got cold feet and forgot the auto 4wd!!!remember those trucks only weigh around 5300lbs.
my thoughts on the 4l80- torque management! the obd11 is trying to save your tires! try a 15mph roll then punch it!

So you have 1300lbs worth of tools and you in that truck??? I thought 1500HDs only wighed in at about 5500lbs at most? I don't see how those trucks could weigh 1800lbs more than my EC Z71.

Welcome!

Ohh, try to break up your post into paragraphs. It is much easier to follow

dont forget the 1500hd has an 8600gvwr. they are the same as the std.2500.the 2500hds are 9200gvwr . the 15's are history now as they have become the 2500 ccsb.there are a few other things i forgot to mention. this truck is a crew cab,3.73 rear and it is an LT.if you get tt mag may/june 02 there is an article about it.i made the mods for some better mpg , i got a big 1.5 out of them.city/highway.most likely i'll probably end up going back to an ecsb.
anyway i'm not an expert but the 4l80e is a great tranny ,and like all components in the drive train it needs to be driven by something, which is the engine. this trans robs around 30 horses from your motor!
talking about motor oil. i use royal purple 5w30 oem only, mobil 1 is ok but can't take the abuse RP can.
thank you for the welcome f8lpony.

My 2500HD, with the lift, wheels and tires, 1/2 tank of gas only weighs in at 6428 lbs. Stock with 285's on 16x8 wheels was around 5960 lbs. Both wre taken with me in it (228 lbs).

At any rate....welcome to LS1Tech.

F8LPONY, did you dyno on a mustang or dynojet? Just curious because i dynoed on a dynojet when my truck was 100% stock exept for a drop in K&N, muffler welded into stock pipe, and descreened MAF and pulled 259rwhp and 304rwtq. I heard the mustangs were alot lower on the numbers they show.

I dyno'd on an Eddy Current style dyno where they put a load on the vehicle. Generally they dyno lowest of most dynos but tend to be the most accurate.

You're TQ and HP seem to be high for a 5.3L don't they?

I see most people dyno 240-245rwhp stock. Or you just got a cool factory freak

The problem with dyno's is it all comes down to the correction factor the operator decides to use. So even 2 Dynojets can vary on the same day and same car. That's why I don't put too much hype into dyno #s. I use the same dyno for testing puposes and use my ET/MPH at the track coupled with datalogging to tell me whats really going on

Hey, how much did you mill your heads and what comp. ratio do you feel you are at now? I might do the same soon with some LS1 heads.
