3.73 vs 4.10 - getting off the line ?
The late model Vortecs seem to produce a lot of horsepower in the upper RPM's - so here is the question:
Will you get improved "off the line" [0-60 times] with a 4.10 vs a 3.73? I know that this is a better setup for heavy towing, just trying to understand [perhaps the obvious] why it will improve the "off the line" performance.
Thanks.

You should see some "off the line" benefit. The 4:10's or any numerically higher gear ratio will take more Hp to drive but the gains in reducing load are definately appearant. You need to consider what gear you want to finish the 1/4 in and or tire size.
Currently I run 26x11.50x16's with the 3.73's but will be switching to 4.10's with the Detriot locker and going to a 28" tall tire. The net effect is about the same however the 28" tire makes for a large conact patch considering I'm all ready spinning the ET streets as it is.

Imagine being on that old ten speed bike and trying to cross the street. The 4.10's are more like starting off in the bigger gear whereas the 3.73's or 3.42's would be like being in that little gear that nearly knocks wou down trying to get that bike going.

Thanks everybody, now I just have to figure out how to get them swapped without robbing a bank. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
