305 to 335 stroker kit?
I was wondering if anybody had put or knows of anybody with a stroker kit in a vortec 305(not TBI) in a 97 GMC Sierra? I kno half the people on here will say its dumb to do anything that extensive to a 305 because they are "weak", but i would like to surprise a few 350 and other V8 owners wen i pop my hood and show its really a 305 that just spanked them. If u have any good suggestions i would really like to kno... thank you

yea that is true, 350 is good. how much would it cost to buy a used 350, stroke it and build it up?(as cheap as possible) Also where could i get a good tune on the PCM to change to the 350?

Just buy this and drop it in. Its even emissions legal.. Its the GMPP HT383-E.. It comes with a new dizzy, plugs, wires, reluctor wheel.

305 just doesn't have the bore needed to make power. the only upside to a small bore is you can run some more boost- but the heads and pistons aren't condusive to boost like the small bore 4.6 ford engine.

build it,i did one before mine was in 79 nova,use the factory block very nice set up,,make around 300hp,super chevy did one for gave away car, it is good street motorsuper chevy made 302hp and 385ft/pds, that ws with stock replacement heads,i bet vortec will give you more,got my kit from power house

You'd be much better off building a 383 or a 377. I once thought of hopping up a 305 until I learned it was just a waste of time and money. For the money you spend building up that 305 with a stroker kit you could spend a little more and get a LOT more potential with a 383 or something. Trust me, the 305 to a 335 just isn't practical. I agree with Hog, get a crate motor. Just my opinion....

well my uncle found vortec 350 for cheap so i guess i am gonna go with what yall said after all and STROKE IT, with headers, a loud exhaust and a slightly lopey cam. thanx for the help and wish me luck on makin big power and gettin lots of wreckless driving tickets!!! ( ok maybe not the wreckless driving part, but still big power )

Just FYI, TBI's don't make good power with modifications unti you tune it properly. TBI's seem to idle rough/stall and don't make expected HP at WOT, especially cam swaps are not even close until it's tuned. If you need help learning to tune TBI's, I suggest you hang out on the third gen F-body site thirdgen.org. The forum members there have done a LOT of TBI tuning, including cams/strokers/etc.
