317 heads getting milled
Im putting together a cam/converter set up for my truck (1500hd lq4), I am just curious how much yall think I should mill my heads and why you think what you say, set up going in is brian tooley stage 3 truck cam (218/224 .553/.553 113+3), 3200 single disk stall, 3.73 rear end. truck weighs in around 5500-5700 lbs. I already have cai, underdrive crank pulley, efans, American racing 1 3/4 headers catless connection pipes into a single 3 inch borla xr-1. I was planning on doing milling .030, port and polish and port match exhaust. I calculated compression would be around 10.1:1 with .030 removed. how much do yall think I should take off? And I am dead set on using 317 heads because I already bought a set for cheap.

I should also note im going to use ls9 head gaskets (.055 compressed thickness, anyone how what the compressed thickness factory head gasket is on a 03 lq4?), arp head bolts, ls7 lifters and the rocker trunion upgrade.

Hello. Always like to see another HD. How did you come up with the cam you chose? We share allot of similar parts!
Don't know your exact goals but the cam I have is close to yours and I'm not happy.. Already looking at another bigger grind.

Nice! Im sure you make quite a bit more power than i will due to the higher compression ratio lol yeah this cam is very mild so we will see how she runs.

My numbers where 392/502 at the wheel with a failing 4l80e which has since been rebuilt by Jake Performance. Dont get me wrong. The motor is making tons of power and I can smoke the tires at will and really liking this EPS cam but just looking for more, quicker, lower mid range power. I will be spraying 200 - 300 when I get the bugs worked out. Right now the main thing is traction. I have not been to the track since buying the Caltracs and MT/et streets. A full suspension front and rear are in the planning stages.

Just remember to not get all hung up on numbers... The Dyno is a tuning tool. You will get different numbers depending on the type of dyno and or manufacturer. Other things will effect the numbers like tranny health, stall etc.. I knew it was a matter of time my tranny was gonna give it up but I think it was pushed over the edge during the third gear pulls. Just a few days later I was pulling the trans outta the truck! I will not be putting my truck on another Dyno anytime soon. Street tune only and let the numbers at the track tell me how good she's doin.

Very true, I'm not even getting it dyno tuned this time, a guy from the dfw is going to my friends shop to where I'm doing the swap at and he is gonna tune a few of our trucks there. Might even whip out the grill and some beers to have something to look forward to after the swap haha
