Default 383 Stroker in, headers are red hot...anyone know why?

Ok, so I helped my buddy drop a 383 Stroker from Blueprint Engines in his 73 C10 this weekend. We did a quick start last night( about 2 min.), and everything seemed fine, but today after we threw the timing light on it and started the break-in process his headers started glowing bright red hot. My first guess would be too much backpressure, he's running LT's with a single3" Which was plenty for his 350, but this motor dynoed over 400. My second guess was is it too lean? He's running a 750 Edelbrock and richened it way up. Any other guesses? Water temp is fine, Oil press is fine, no leaks, everything is fine but that, oh and they are ceramic coated headers.
He's calling Blueprint tomorrow to see what they recommend for exhaust and jets on the carb (they dynoed it with a 750).

On my old 383...I had the same glowing headers and the problem was I was a little bit lean but I didn't touch the fuel mixture so I kept an eye on it and it didn't do it anymore after the first break in....everything is just breaking it...its going to get hot.

Oh, his LT headers and single 3" is fine for that engine....I have the same on my new 383.

It didn't glow after break in? I think I'm gonna hook my LC-1 up to it and dial the AFR after it's all married.

i had the same engine from blueprint and it did the same thing. I had hooker LT's and I thought they were going to melt. Timing was good and it may have been a little rich. After the breakin it never happened again.

Normal for break in. Happened with my motors I have built too. I know the cam gets pretty damn hot in break which is why you do not let the motor idle. Revving it up will allow more oil to splash.

usually a rich condition will cause that... the extra fuel burning in the exhaust

Chevracer83..that is also correct...I have seen this too from too much fuel pressure. When I switched to the HSR, I had 48 psi and the headers glowed a little bit....backed it off to 43 psi...no more glowing.

I've had it caused by too much timing before, doesn't sound like thats your problem though.
