383 stroker + spray is what im thinking!
Ok after reading many thread on how a $3500 FI setup turns into a $7-8K setup i have decided to go with a 383 stroker motor and just juice the hell out of it! This is my planned motor set up
LS1 alum. block
Forged Ross flat top nitrous pistons
- 3.910" bore
- 4.000" stroker crank
- 6.125" connecting rods
-918 comp springs
-hardend pushrods
-Cam????, i have a 212/218, but that is too small i'm sure?
-at least 30 lb injectors
i plan on using my Stock 5.3 heads for a nice 11.5 to 1 comp ratio
i plan on getting a wet kit and spraying up to a 200 shot, pistons are supposedly good up to a 300 shot.
i think i'm going to have to get a 4l80, i'm sure my 60 will take a crap
What else should i consider getting?
What kind of 1/4 times could i expect on just the motor?
i'm just trying to get everyones opinion on this setup, i want it to be reliable and a blast to drive.
please guys throw in your 2 cents

Looks like a very good starting point except for that cam. You may want to post in the Internal section for some advice on cam selection as there are not too many of those motors over here ( I started small at the Z06 stick ).
Good luck, keep us up on the happenings!

Yeah, i'm sure i need to get another cam, i was thinking maybe a 224/234 somewhere near .550-.600 of lift on a 112 lsa. That is just a guess, i'm no expert buy no means on cams though.

Yeah, I am cam illiterate too. From what I have read your above numbers look good. Do a check on the LSA tho, I cannot remember if you want more or less for the giggle gas. Seem to think less or wider ( like 116 or so ).
I'd still post a help question it in the "Internal" section at the top of the site. Many of those guys over there have worked with the stroker engines more than us truck folks.

It's a simple go fast combo. Not as exotic or head turning as a turbo or whining blower but it's much cheaper in the short term and WILL definately tun heads at the track. *thumbs up*

Oops, just saw you were gonna use the stock heads. Why? Even though compression is higher your flow wil lack. Maybe get some 5.7L heads and have em milled?

thanks guys yeah, i'm new to cams also, i will ask some cam gurus about spraying and LSA'a and stuff. f8lz71? Will the 5.7 L heads flow better than my 5.3 heads?
on another note, i need to buy a wet kit i guess, what is the difference between a dual stage kit and a single stage? Where are you Parish8?

I am not 100% sure but I thought each time you went up in head "size" they had better flow characteristics. You might wanna check in the LS1 internals section or ask the question in the Nitrous section. Head flow is a lil more critical to you being N/A and nitrous than it is to use forced induction guys. But I was always under the impression that stock 5.3L heads dont flow all that well compared to the others.
