Thanks for the info Whitt. I didn't find a thickness on the 9199 during my search today.

Not quite BigKid, its somewhat the opposite. You'd have a tighter quench which increases combustion efficiency and fights off detonation. Personally, I'd rather have that .043 gasket than a .060 for that reason.

Quench is the reason I was looking for a thinner gasket in the first place. I have just read that the overbore of the gasket may hurt as much as the reduced thickness helps.

I needed the thicker head gasket because of the deck height of the pistons on my stroker,I doubt that would be an issue with a LQ4 block.

So you had a positive deck height with your stroker?

I am probablly going to go with the Cometic 4.00"/.040 gaskets. The are a little pricy but will be worth it if/when I pull the heads off again. Plus the quench on those will be much mo nicer.
