4.10 Gears.
What brand ring and pinion gear set are you guys running? I want to go with 4.10's but I don't want to pay the $587 for the GM gear set! Who makes a good reliable gear that isn't noisy?

Re: 4.10 Gears.
I agree on the proper lash and install but the gears still whine depending on the cut. I guess the new GM gears have a 5 angle grind. I'm still not paying $587 for a set of gears! The install is going to run me about $320.

Re: 4.10 Gears.
I am with big-randy's r and p is the only place to get rearend parts. They have good service, are knowledgeable and sell quality stuff. I bought a set of 3.73 Yukon brand gears from them for my street rod and they set up easy with NO noise at all. A lot of aftermarket gear sets whine because of the way they are cut so be aware of that.

Re: 4.10 Gears.
Having just gone thru this last week, it has nothing to do with the gears themselves. It is how they are set up. There are 2 grind & 5 grind gears. 2 grind gears are biased towards the toe and heel of the ring gear, and 5 cut gears have no bias. If you buy 2 grind gears and the installer tries to set them up like 5 grind gears you will have noise. You will get noise from 5 grind gears if they are set up with bias towards the toe & heel. You just have to know which kind you have, and make sure your installer knows how to set them up correctly. I bought my gears from Power Train Truck & Auto Parts. Gears were $159.95 plus shipping. They are GM 2 cut gears, and work great on my truck now that I know the difference in grinds. They are great guys to deal with. They also sell the install kits for our trucks. Their # is 1-866-589-GEAR.
