4.10s or 3.73s?
I'm gonna put an eaton posi unit on my truck soon after I get the yank tt2600 installed. I'm just wondering if I should keep my stock 3.73 gears or go with some 4.10s. I do have 20 inch rims with good size tires on em, goodyear eagle gt2s . I want good takeoff but I don't want to lose my top end accelleration either, top speed isn't important just 60-110 or so accelleration. Do bigger gears change your high speed accelleration other than making it run higher in rpms or would it just change the top speed the vehicle is able to acheive?
Thanks in advance,
Ryan

I have 4.10s and a 3200 stall, my top end sucks. My low end, however, kicks ***. I would stay with the 3.73s but if you do decide to go with 4.10s, I'll buy your 3.73s from you

I'll vouch for Chingon's truck. When I took a drive in it I thought "There's no way this is a 4.8L..." You just need to decide what is more important to you - gas mileage and top-end, or low-end grunt. There's no free lunch, so arrange your priorities and decide accordingly.

On the street, when I had the 3.73s I would take Mac out of the hole and keep ahead up until 80 or so if I remember correctly. It was very close. This was when we were both bone stock.
When I got the 4.10s, I would rip him out of the hole, but then he would come screaming by at around 60 and take me from there all the way to 100.
If I could get some decent traction, I probably could do better since I have the 3200 stall.
On the freeway, it was no contest, he kicked my *** from 50 and up. My top end sucks and I hate it. I don't know whether I should go with 3.73s or even 3.42s because of my stall, or keep the 4.10s and get a cam with a lot of top end

Chingon is one of the few people I hear who has lost some high end with his 4.10's. A good friend of mine put some 4.10 on his ext cab 5.3 and swears his 60-70mph pulls are better with his 4.10's than his stock 3.42.

I posted something very similar to this about a week ago. Here's the link:

I'm personally thinking about going with 4.56's, but I have 285/50/20 tires. I'm more versed with 1st gen Camaros, so I converted the numbers to that. My 3.73's and those tires is like me running a 3.07 with a 26" tire. I had those in my car and they sucked. 4.56's would be like me running 3.73's in a f-body. Not bad, if fact A LOT of f-body guys do that!
Hey Chingon, how even are you and Mac? I know you have different gears, but if he has a more top-end oriented cam then that's probably why he get's you at 60mph. If your trucks were the same except for gear, then you should cross the finish line 1st. Maybe not at a higher mph, but first. I guess I'm confused.
On the freeway, I can see why he could go faster, but I would think that if you were both rolling at 60mph. You both hit it, and raced up to your top speed. You would get to your top speed first. But he would be able to keep going. That's how I thought it worked.
Lower gears allow the engine to run through the rpm's faster. HP is torque over time. So if the time is less, then the effective torque would increase. So I would think you would woop his ***?!?
I still don't understand why you would lose mph in the 1/4mi. I see f-body guys swap gears ALL the time and lose tenths and gain a few mph. I don't know. I feel sooo confused. Maybe some one can explain it all to me. My head hurts. I'm going to bed. Peace out!

We were both stock when we did comparisons except we both had K&N intakes, HPP3s, and Flowmaster mufflers. So, basically stock, but all the same mods, just different gears.
When I had 3.73s and he had 3.42s, I would win for the most part, but it was close. At the track he would have a higher trap speed, like 90MPH vs. my 88MPH, but I would win.
On the freeway, at around 65MPH (speed limit ) we would both stomp it and he would just take off away from me, not as bad with the 3.73s, and even worse with my 4.10s.
Right now, around 60-65MPH is where I top out as far as that pulling sensation/torque you get when you floor it. 0-60 my truck rips for what it is, but after that it sucks. The thing is, if we're going about 65-70 or so, we both floor it, I stay in 3rd, and Mac drops into second and hauls.

I cant explain to you the details but I do know that my truck kicks alota *** 60mph +
When Chingy had the 373 gears he would rip me about a truck length until about 55-60 then I would pass and keep pulling. Now with Chingys gears and stall, forget it I cant even compair to his launch. But when we keep goin I will pass him and he wont catch up
BTW- Im just bought a posi and will be switching 373s or 390s in
