Default 4.3 vs 5.3

i am definitely going to get a silverado in the upcoming months. my dad offered me a great deal on one of his company trucks. its a reg cab 4.3 liter auto with 3 73 rear (2wd). my question is, is it possible to get this thing in the mid/high 14's? i dont have too much money to blow so i am really not considering a blower/turbo and i dont want nitrous.
if this isnt achievable, i guess ill consider a 5.3 ext cab but im really only holding about 8 grand total for the whole deal, and my dad's 4.3 is getting a lot better gas mileage than what i hear the 5.3's get.

thanks for any help

save yourself the trouble and get a 5.3. i get 16.5 mpg @ town and 21 on the highway.... seems pretty good to me. i havent ever seen a 4.3 at the track to be honest. i have never raced one either, so i couldnt tell you their capabilities. im sure it will take quite a bit of money to get it to go fast, especially if you dont want nitrous. hope that helps.

Save your money and get the 5.3, the 5.3 and the 4.3 get around the same amount of gas mileage anyway. Plus it's going to be tough to get that 4.3 to the mid 14's without any type of FI.

There was a 4.3L RCSB at the track last night. I think he told me he was running low 17's!!! Jeez, i thought i was slow!
Without spraying it'd take mega mega bucks, but you know, you might have the only 14 second 4.3L on pt.net

how much cheaper is the 4.3L? You could always buy that and do a 6.0 swap.

I have a 2001 ecsb 2wd, and i get about the same, i would def. get the 5.3 unless your dad's truck is a screaming deal, then I would get it and just swap in a 6.0...

The 6.0 swap into a truck that came with the 4.3 is not nearly as easy as swapping one into a truck that already came with a V8. There is no way I would get the 4.3 truck for any reason other than a daily driver. It will nickel and dime you to death doing the 6.0 CONVERSION, not swap.
