4.3L to 5.3 swap
EDIT: I found all the info on swaping a V8 into a V6 in aother board. But i still need some more info...
Ok guys I think i just got a bad *** deal on a, what I think is, 5.3L engine (it says 4.8/5.3 on the front of the block). I was told it was off a 2003 wrecked Avalanche. I bought the complete engine with all belt driven accessories, the tranny attached, and the computer from a body shop owner for $700 everything together!
He had already sold the wiring harness. The motor looks good and in working condition, only thing that got busted was the rear end on the truck.
I have a few questions though. How do i know what kind of tranny it is? On the F-bodies it usually says 4L60E on the side, could these be a 4L80E or something else?
I have a spare 5.7L LS1 short block in my garage. I was wondering if I should put that one in my truck instead. But would the 5.3L heads work ok with the LS1? What will my CR be?
Any help is appreciated guys! Thanks In Advance!

That's a pretty complicated swap there dude.....there's pretty much NOTHING the same between the 4.3L and the LSx trucks. you're gonna have to change EVERYTHING related to electronics and fuel supply.
If you want to use a six speed do a search on here for "T56 swap", It's not too hard to do and since you're gonna have your truck torn down about as far as is possible to put a V8 into it swapping in the T56 will be pretty straightforward
Major things you'l need to have for the engine swap are: (and this is by no means a complete list)
* COMPLETE wiring harness....Speartech can probably help with this or get one from a junkyard or dearlership
* Custom programmed PCM (correct V8 VIN, programmed for a V8)
* V8 in-tank fuel pump (I've been told V6's use a lower-flow pump)
* V8 fan shroud (or electric fans)
* V8 Radiator
* correct length driveshaft (if you're gonna use the T56)
* V8 induction tubing (and possibly the airbox)
I wish you the best of luck on this swap.....you "may" be better off seeing of you can use the Avalanch you got the motor out of as a parts donor for your swap, it'll speed things up ALOT if you have a reference to look at as well (find a friend with a V8 truck who'll let you park the two side by side during the swap

Yelo's steering you straight. I've heard Speartech is great with wiring. Allen from NP fabs 5.3 harnesses at a lower cost. Can you find the harness on his truck???

I think one of my buddies has a spare harness from a truck.

A vortec 350 swap wouldnt be that difficult, all teh accesories would worka s would your PCM with a reflash.
Just have to add 2 extra injector looms(4 wires) to the PCM and you would be set.
The NBS 4.3 uses the same NBS PCM as the othertrucks. There are 5.7L Vortec Gen1 engines used in the 2001 and 2002 Vans as well as commercial trucks.
