Default 4.8 to 8.1 swap... can it be done?

Hey guys I have a 2000 silverado with a 4.8 right now. I was thinking about going with a 6.0, which is the most common around here. Then I thought, hey 8.1 is HUGE. I found one cheap and was wondering how hard it would be to swap out. I was going to swap teh 4l60e to a 4l80e anyways. Would that be the only problem I would run into when swapping it into my 1500? What else would I have to worry about?

Its a completely different engine design. None of your current accessories will work with it. It will take a new PCM to control it and probably different engine mounts. The beauty of the 6L is that it will drop right in and run with all your current stuff.

Will it's not worth doing that. BigTex is exactly right, that and you can get better mpg adn performance out of the 6.0. Do a 4l80 e and 6.0 buildup swap.

definetly not going to be worth doing the 8.1, your first big problem is that the whole front section of the frame will have to be changed to a 2500HD front end, and so many other complications that just doing a 6.0 and a built 4l80e would be far cheaper and better all around...don't get me wrong the 8.1 is a beast, but you need basically all new everything to make it work and it would not be worth the time and money as compared to a 6.0 and 4l80e swap.

8.1 would be a beast; ahahhaha. What kind of times are you planning to run to justify that thing.

I still think it would be pimp to run a ZZ572 @ 620hp with a 250shot for people who need to be beaten badly.

Now you are talking, just boost the 632 and have fun. Just make sure never to pop the hood when others are around and have 4.8 or 293 decals on the hood. heheheh
