i recently had the bright idea of possibly boring out my 4.8 to a 5.3. just wandering if it would be worth it? would it make a big difference or really change much at all? and would it be cost effective?

 

I think a 4.8 and 5.3s share the same bore size, its the stroke thats different.

 

get a crank and rods and throw them in. should pick up like 30 or 40 horsies maybe

 

You can always bore it out and get a 5.3 crank and some 5.7 rods and pistons and have an iron ls1

short stroke, big bore, it will turn rpms like nobodys business.

can a 4.8/5.3 block be bores to a 4" bore? if it can you could use 6.0 pistons and 4.8 crank

 

Nope sure cant. Well not and keep the reliability.. The cylinder walls get to thin.

 

Gotta use a 6.0 block, but some folks have talked about wanting to do that. It'd basically be an old school 327. These engines rev pretty quick anyway, so unless you're building for a specific race series with a cubic engine rule, I'd probably just stick to the stock 6.0 internal dimensions. Would be cool to see though, especially if you put an L92 top end on it.

 

i really need 2 pick up on bottom end, so would a 4.8 crank with 5.7 piston work?

 

if you bored it out, then yes the 5.7 pistons would work. but if you want more bottom end, why dont you do the easier thing and swap gears and get a good tune?
