Default 4.8 Crank/Rods Strength

Hey All, when running the 4.8 crank and rods how high could you spin them if using larger/heavier pistons with out to much worries? (balanced of course with upgraded rod bolts)

Well I guess I should shape the question a little differently, would these stock rods and crank be ok to a shift point of ~7400RPM?

It is the same crank as the LS1. Matt Harlan made over 1200hp and ran 8.29 in his Trans Am 4-5 years ago using a stock crank, forged rods and pistons. I have never heard of a stock crank breaking in the 10 years I have been around.

Hmmmm, are you thinking what I am thinking? Get a set of custom wrist pin hieght 4.000" bore pistons, drop in a 6.0L block and rev the crap out of it?
Sounds like a lot of fun!

I might be Although I am thinking pin height is the same between them both. I have a 5.3 with crap bores, and I am picking up what I think is a 4.8 so I am going to do a little messing around and see how well all the parts go together.

Oh yeah, is the 4.8L crank a shorter stroke? I thought the 4.8, 5.3, 5.7, and 6.0 all had a 3.622" stroke? Why would they make a crank just for the 4.8L? I htought the fundamnetal difference between them all was bore size.

Wow! Just looked it up. The 4.8L crank is about a 3.27" stroke. Learn something new every day!
