4.8 Mileage with cam?
Im looking at the tr 224 or 220 cam or maybe a comp of similar specs. I have to drive 50 mins one way to school next semester and i dont want to do the swap this summer if the mileage goes to crap. What kind of gas mileage are yall getting with your cams in a 4.8, and what gears do you have?
Thanks,
Derek

4.8, 219/228-112, 4.56 gears, 32" tire, T56. I can get as low at 14mpg in town if I drive like an ***, but if I drive normal, only getting into boost when needed I get 17mpg in town with the A/C on about 2/3 the time. Its all in how you tune it.

I believe SSlow4.8 told me the other night that with his 224/224 driving easy he gets ~16-17mpg. Other mods of his are P&P heads, smaller stall, Longtubes with gutted cats, Flowmaster Super40 dumped, and cai.

Derek, my truck is set-up similar to yours, I lost about 1/2 mpg with this cam but it still needs to be tuned for this cam. I'm getting about 16-17 overall right now. The cams you are looking at are pretty big for the 4.8 but definitely streetable with a good tune. I wouldn't hesitate to go for the 224 but you will probably lose at least 1-2 mpg.

I'm curious just exactly HOW you guys are managing to get 9-11mpg with RCSB 4.8's ?!?!?!?....I can see 9mpg with my ECSB H/C 6.0 but I have to give it absolute hell to do so !!
