Default 4.8 vs 5.3, which one should I get?

Purchasing a New '03 this week, Silverado/Sierra 1500 4WD, Extracab, short bed, automatic.

I currently have a Tahoe 2000 with 5.3 very happy with the power/torque. 100% stock.

This truck will be used for running around town, tow my powerboat very seldom (only 4 miles) so towing is "NOT" an issue. I could care less about gas mileage.

Is it worth the extra $800 for the 5.3, 15HP & 40 TQ more? Or should I get the 4.8 and spend $800 in mods?

Please don't turn this into a Flame war.

I think you might as well get the 5.3

Any mods you do will have more effect with the 5.3 compaired to the 4.8

With out a doubt get the 5.3L, it's a no brainer. It's only about an $800 dollar option and you would spend alot more in mods trying to get a 4.8L up to the performance level of a stock 5.3L. Just my opinion though.

I've decided to go with the 5.3. Now I need to decide which intake and exhaust.

She only knows my Trans Am.

Thanks, I could barely believe it myself

Here's the DEAL:

NO Trade-In.

MSRP $32,732
Dealer knocked off $3,850 or $300 below INVOICE = $28,882

GM rebate - $3,000
GM rebate for Michigan resident - $1,000 (Ends July 31)
GM rebate for Loyal customer - $1,000 (I have a Tahoe also)Ends Sept 2nd
GM rebate "CONQUEST" - $500 (because I also have a competitors car "DODGE")
TOTAL REBATES - $5,500

Total Savings $9,350

$28,882 - $5,500 = $23,382 + tax, title, & plates.

Tires first, tommorrow. Any recommendations.

I want looks (profile) and good in Sand, Snow, and rain.

I am thinking about BF Goodrich ALL TERRAIN TA (KO) LT 285, I'm keeping stock Aluminum rims.

I need opinions please.

Thanks

Mac

depends on what look you want really, with that truck i would fit the biggest widest tire i could with the stock ride height without rubbing all the time. on a big truck i like big tires, but that's just me. i hate seeing a jacked up truck with tires that are just way to small. i know your's isn't jacked up but you see where i'm going. only mud/terrain tires i ever owned were DESERT DOGs...and they were awesome.
