Default 4.8 vs 5.3 wiring/pcm

Do the 4.8 and 5.3 use different wiring harnesses and PCMs?
Maybe the PCMs are re-programmable to match either motor?

How about an LS1 wiring harness or PCM? Different animals?

4.8 & 5.3 are going to have the same wiring harness. Different pcms programming.

LS1 will have both a different wiring harness and pcm.

I'm pretty sure that the 4.8 and 5.3 PCM's can be progammed to be compatable with each other, and the harnesses should be the same. As for the LS1, I think that PCM is different, but I'm not 100% sure...just going by what I've learned here and at LS1Tech.

Can the 5.3 PCM get reprogrammed for a 4.8?
I have a 4.8 now, so I need to find wires/PCM.
If I can find a 5.3 PCM, I'm curious if it'll work.

Thanks for your help, guys.

any computer can be used for any motor. just all in how someone set it up

the 5.3 computer can be easily used on the 4.8 just need to adjust it properly to work for the 4.8

biggest thing to worry about would be VIN and OS

I don't like the sound of that. PCMs store VIN information?
Should I dig into an LSx board to get some additional detail?

I wouldn't worry about that, the VIN and OS can be changed with pretty much any tuning software. The PCM, are like your home computer, they can be pretty much programed and configured for any application. The only real thing you need to look after is year diffrence. 99-02 is a 512k flash chip and 03+ is a 1 meg flash chip. All LS1 I believe are the 512 chip set. Usually you can find a harness and PCM from the same vehicle and just have it programed for your application. If you buy an after market harness, they are usually set up for the LS1 (which will have different injector plugs then a truck harness) which any of the 512k pre-03 computers will work with.

a lil different hardware and locations, the 99-2002 can use the same "411"
computer like the 2000-2002 truck computers.
