Default 4 inch muffler

I currently have a 14 inch oval Magnaflow dumped before the axle with lt's and no cats and sounds good just want something new.I just picked up a Dynatech split flow in 4 inch size.I have read they are pretty much like the Borla xr-1.Figured I will go to 4 inch pipe at the y-pipe connection and use a 4 inch turndown.

Question is will this be louder than my current set up,and how does 4 inch compare to running dual 3" or dual 2.5" pipe.

4" seems pretty aggressive for your setup. Do you have plans of going FI?

4 inch is overkill,I am trying more for sound than anything else.Theres not much pipe in between my y-pipe and muffler now so it will basically only be 4" at the muffler.Truck is a rcsb.Just curious if it will be louder.

Yes I think it will be louder. I'm running 3" from the headers to a dual inlet magnaflow with a single 4" outlet dumped over the axle. It's very throaty out of the 4" pipe. No cats by the way. It sounds good but too loud for my liking.

Don't wanna jack your thread, but do you guys think 3.5" would be too much for a stock 5.3?

Bone stock motor.. yes that's a little bit of overkill.

I understand velocity a little bit, but what exactly will I gain and lose with 3.5" pipe, I do like the sound it could provide with a big tip though

If all you are interested in is sound just dump it before the rear axle and don't run a muffler

I like the sound of the Dynatech mufflers.

Here's a sound clip of a 4" Dynatech on my Z28.

i think it will sound better w/ dual 2.5 split flows. 4" is way overkill. love my splitflows btw. i've tried about every muffler and these are my favorite.
