My truck has a ground strap on the driver head also. But hell, it's been off since the first engine replacement. You definantly have a voltage problem. Keep checking fuses. It seems like I had a similar problem and found one of the smaller fuses that was giving me the problem.

 

guessing it might be a loose ground mabey. just start grounding everything and that might find the problem

 

The ground that I missed was the one on the driver's side. I want to say that it connected to the block, but I don't really remember.

 

Got my grounding issues worked out yesterday and everything is running fine now. Now just need to work on the tuning.

Definitely ditto on the ground problem...seen it on dim trailer lights and slow cranking when everything else was ok.

so what ground was it so we know incase it happens to one of us??
and how does it run i'm thinking of one for mine.

 

There is a ground that goes from the negative terminal of the battery that goes to the block, one that goes from the head to the ground post on the firewall, and one that goes from the firewall to the hood. I left off the one going to the head.

Runs great, once tuning issues have been worked out - most. May be getting ready to go to a shaft mount rocker system.

 

Sounds Like A Ground That Happened To Me On My Old Chevy I Had A Loose Ground And None Of The Gauges Worked Right. Mostly The Alternator It Showed Almost No Voltage.
