Default 454 7.4L; Anybody w/ the last gen fuel injected BBC Chevy/GMC 2500/3500??

i just bought a 2000 Chevy crew cab, short bed, 4x4, 454. It is not the throttle body injection, but rather the efi aluminum manifold. Many parts stores don't even seem to recognize the 7.4 as an option for 2000. I keep getting 5.3/5.7/6.0.

I really don't know what my question is other than where's a good source of reference/parts/tips/tricks/mods for this engine? I believe its 290hp/410tq but it feels rather sluggish at only 100k miles. Only mod is the K&N cold air kit. Catback exhaust will come next...not much for headers out there, and unclear on what heads/cams work w/ this engine.

Any help or links appreciated...and i've searched a ton with no real success.

Thanks!

if its the new body style then it should be the 2000 year, however if its the old body style it will be a 99.. ive also seen on the hd trucks were they did carry some old parts over to the new body style so you should be able to just look it up for a year before.. 1500 crossed and had both styles in 99 were all other trucks make the body change a year later which would be the 2000 year in this case.. it happens all the time!

very clean tho looks very good for the age and mileage!

Its def a 2000 and def a 7.4, i'll attach the carfax info, but i'd consider this the old body style or classic style. Maybe that's why i can't find out anything...its a weird production overlap or something.

carfax:

VIN: 1GCGK23J8YF509125
Year: 2000
Make: Chevrolet
Model: C/K2500 Base / LS
Style/Body: Crew Cab 4D
Class: Pickup - Full Sized
Engine: 7.4L V8 MPI
Country of Assembly: United States
Vehicle Age: 10 year(s)

here it is...before i spun the torsion keys up an inch or so.

Definitely a GMT400 truck. You're better off searching under '98 for 7.4L/454 options on parts, etc....

There was a thread in the classifieds with a guy selling long tubes for the 7.4 iirc.

That engine responds well to exhaust. There are some headers out there that work good. That engine is designed for lots of torque. The ports on the heads are really small. I don't think a cam would be worth it.

A cam swap will be what you need to make it really go. The cam in those engines is a turd. I did a cam in my 99 7.4 burban and a dyno tune and it's a day and night difference and will fly and pull. Didn't hurt gas mileage too bad it average about 12-13 unloaded and 7-9 pulling. But it will pull a house off it's foundation now if necessary.

That's a there's a guy locally with that engine and a 4L80E in a half ton Tahoe Limited and that thing will fly! He transplanted it all in, ported the intake, bigger throttle body, went with some Brodix heads I believe, custom cam, long tubes, and dual 3" through some magnaflows... It's a very impressive setup, and completely driveable...
