the 65e is not in the middle but more like the 60e. it can take alittle more from what I read but not much. All the parts I listed for the 80e conversion costed me around 4 grand. (with a 700$ stall converter) a built 60e or 65e is around 3 grand. If you plain on only seeing around 400 hp then maybe a 60/65e will work but if it blows up you are back where you started, with a small junk trans. I was faced with the same choice about two weeks ago, I havent even installed (or seen) my 80e and I'm glad I went the 80 route.

I was thinking after I posted, if you did get a built 60 or 65, you could allwas have the Torque managment program limit what your trans "sees". I dont know if it would work to keep a 60/65 safe but you could look into it.

paw the parts are at speed engineering. Some of them are chevy parts but I don't know no part #s'

Question

I just got off the phone with a different trans shop. They were convinced that I have a 4l65e in my 2002 Tahoe/5.3. He asked if it was an ls1 engine, I said yes because I think it is, not positive. I crawled underneath my truck (burned my hand on the cat 'cause I just got home, duh it's hot) and described what I saw, some type of lever, he called a neutral switch I think, some electronic harness hook ups and a triangle looking bracket, all on the drivers side. He said it was a 4l65e, a built one with a HD TC (2000 stall) would run $1600 shipped, no core fee and I get to keep the old tranny. This new tranny has corvette servo, something called a sun plate that is 3X bigger than stock and a bunch of other built goodies, and he said it would handle 500hp/tq easy. He also said it was easy to swap, about 30 bolts and 3 to 4 hours of work. How many lies did I just hear? Damn this ice pack feels good on my fingers.

LOL that sounds like a killer deal to me. Any warrenty on this "built" trans? I Don't know how to tell between a 60 and a 65, but I thought most SUVs came with them. So you do have a 65e? for 1600$ I might would try it.

He gives a 1 year/12,000 mile warranty with it. Parts and up to $35 per hour labor up to the repair manual estimate for time. So it's not a 100% warranty cause I don't know of a shop that charges $35 an hour, more like $70 around here. this is the one I was looking at before he told me I needed a 65. I guess I will have to figure out exactly what I have before I buy anything. My fingers still hurt

I have a Westers tune sitting in my garage on top of my Radix. I have a Westers in right now but had to add the supercharger mod and get an updated one. I will swap them out during the radix install and then send the old one back. Is there another type of tuning you're talking about or is that it? I wasn't sure if that was your question or not. I still have no idea if I have a 60 or 65, guess I'll give the dealership a call tomorrow with my VIN and see if they can tell me.
