Default 4l80 Questions

Is there any mounting problems? Do they bolt right up? Do I need to shorten the drive shaft. I think I am going to get my drive shaft balanced anyway. Thanks in advance.

this months superchevy has a short article on the install. The truck used is a 2000 silverado

I know for a fact that it is pretty easy on that particular truck.

anyway you can use a 1500 auto t-case w/ a 80e? that would be the only thing that would turn me away from one

I bet it has a Hughes torque converter in it.

Here's a list of what I've gathered up so far. Not sure what all needs to be done just yet since I haven't installed it, but here's what I've got so far:
  • 4L80E tranny (be sure it has a dipstick tube and inspection cover, or add another $100 to your budget )
  • Higher stall converter (Yank TT3200 HD for me)
  • 6.0L flexplate and crank spacer w/ correct length flywheel bolts
  • Speartech wiring harness
  • Tuning for tranny
  • Tranny cooler
  • Transgo
  • shortened driveshaft--since my truck is lowered, I'm going to go ahead and get the proper length d/s. I've heard that the d/s will fit w/ an adapter from the 1350 yoke to the "saginaw" (?) joint on the d/s
  • custom crossmember (either mod your stock one or have one built from scratch)

I think that's it so far...someone chime in if I've missed anything. The tranny will physically bolt to any LSx motor AFAIK.

You might want to add in some cost for lines. The return line on the 1997-up 4L80-E is in the back, not in the front like the 60, so the stock lines have to be rebent to work or correct new lines have to be used.

Be sure that the correct fitting is used for the return line. It protrudes into the case and through a seal on the center support to provide lube and cooling oil to both rear planetaries and associated shafts.

thats a cool list scream. i think it would be neat to have a sticky on the 4l80 swap or a good thread with all the things to do.

So if you already have a 6.0 you dont need the flywheel or the spacer because its already in there. Or do you just need the spacer to go from a 6.0 with a 4l60 to a 4l80.
