so to go from a 60e to an 80e in a 4wd not SS you need a new flexplate, crossmember, harness, TC, and shorter drive shaft. what else am i missing? also would you would need the transfercase, or swap out some shaft in it. im just think about going to an 80e and not have to deal with the tranny anymore. i would like to have a 408 and some n20. and be dune with the engine aspect. a local junk yard has some 00 and 01 80e trans for like $650 not sure about how many miles though.

Related to TheLadiesMan's (Leon Phelps??) question, how many of the necessary parts for a 60 to 80 swap could be snipped off of a 2500 or 3500 truck?? Like, would a 2500 crossmember bolt in to the 1500 chassis, or are the frames different (in shape/spacing)?? My truck is 4WD (I guess it's autotrack... has an "auto" mode for the 4WD on the dash), so could I get a 2500 front driveshaft and shorten my factory rear piece (read: getting a driveshaft shortened/balanced is only ~$80 vs. the cost of a whole new shaft)?? I would think that the wiring harness pigtail/adapter would be easy enough to make with a couple of connectors and some pin-out diagrams. As I understand it, all that would be necessary in order to retain my current transfer case would be to use/install the piece from Transmission Exchange that was mentioned in the first page of this thread... is that correct?? Would my current transfer case be strong enough to deal with the kind of power that would require a 4L80E??
Leaning towards eventually doing a mild turbo 408 (not looking to go racing, just want to have something that'll be fun around town). Thanks for any input.
