Default 4l80e update, stall update, turbo update

no news is good news, figured i would just post up and let everyone know i am haveing no issues whatsoever. i dont want to jinx myself or anything and fully expect to have to build it at some point.

it is a stock 4l80e with a $109 shift kit and a yank stall, total cost for everything(tranny, stall, shift kit, driveshafts, harness and program), was about the same as just a built 4l60e and would apear to be stronger than one too.

now for the stall, first it was way too loose, 4000rpm na , so i sent it back and it was prety darn tight, 2400NA , i figured i would wait till i got the turbo before i worried about it too much. now i have the turbo and i think the stall might just be perfect, i can rev it high enuff while holding it back with the brakes to get some boost and then see near instant full boost after i nail it.

i am amazed at the low end torque i have picked up with the turbo, i am talking about the off idle power, i didn't think there would be any benifit from the turbo right out of the hole under moderate throttle but there is.

as far as the turbo goes, besides a slightly dificult install i would say at normal boost levels it has performed great. compared to the whipple kit i had it needs better instructions(pictures!!) and a more attention to a details as far as the parts list went. to give credit to cmotorsports i think i was the first person to actualy get the kit and they changed a couple of things from their base kit at my request that confused things a little.

Thanks for the update. I know there are always a few glitches when you are one of the first to try something new. I hope to see it progress even further.

Good to hear things are holding up well. I think that verter will end up being perfect with that 409.

Do you still leave it in 4wd all the time? So you still have the 1/2 ton front diff and rear diff, but those are the only 1/2 ton parts of the drivetrain left?

So what do you think the limit is with a 4wd launch? Do you think there will be a point where all the weight will transfer to the rear tires and the 4wd won't do much good? Just curious, how does a 1.7 60' feel? I'm probably in the 1.9 range, and I think that feels pretty good.

What fuel did you end up running?

Are you going to O-ring the heads on the 409?

i leave it in 4wd anytime i am racing or out looking for a race and 2wd for just driving to work and stuff. i went with the 111octane since it was cheap.

the entire front end and rear are still stock, driveshafts too but the rest has all been swaped out. so far it is holding up well, my best 60' was a 1.72 and i didn't even turn over the tires but i can tell it is close to pealing out and i think that is when the stress gets worse(wheel hop). i am sure i can cut some 1.65's or so but anymore than that i dont know about. i will try a 100shot next time at the track to help my hole shot, eventualy i am going to need to get some non stock tires, i dont think the firejunks are rated for 120mph

i plan on going with the afr heads wich have the thick deck, not sure if i will oring them or not, most likely do whatever the motor builder sugests.

Have you found any drag slicks or drag radials that were as tall as you wanted, or as wide as you wanted?
