Default 4l80e is in and working

It lives!!! OMG! If I knew it would have this hard of a pull I woulda converted 2 years ago! 2nd gear in this thing is unreal! It is trapping 115mph on my vericom and it was only pulling 109 before the swap. The only other changes are I did raise the shift points. But damn it only trapped 116 on the juice the last time out (back in Feb) I can't wait to hit it with a 150 shot!

So far the '80 seems to shift nice and firm, but not hard or jerky like the '60 was sometimes. The 1-2 shift doesnt come til about 58 mph! But second pulls like a freight train-way, way better than before. I cant explain it but something has picked it up on the big end. The vericom shows a 13.18 et with a 60ft of 2.71! I can't wait to get some track numbers. This is all on a baseline tune that I made up out of my head when I put the motor in. I have a wideband now and I think it is time to use it!

Awesome man

I imagine some of the second gear pull could be attributed to less rpm drop on the 1-2 shift. The 80E is holding ~500rpm more on both shift due to closer ratios over the 60E.

Glad to hear it's working out, that is very encouraging.

Sounds like your truck is a beast also.

Do you think your 60 was slipping and slowing you down?

Black-yeah my truck has cut a 1.65 before and averaged 1.70 to 1.71 all last season. It has been my experience that whatever difference you make in a 60ft time makes around 1 1/2 times that amount in et. So....that would put me in the mid 11's or so, which is where I thought it should be, and is in line with the mph I am running. Then hit it with a 150 or 200 shot!! Thats the plan.

GMC-yeah I put in a transgo but didnt rebuild. I went with a Midwest 3500 converter. I had em build it with a 2.7 STR to try to make up for the crappy 1st gear ratio. Cant wait to bolt the tires on and go to the track

That sounds like a good combo. Give it hell and see if you can break it.

GMC SKI - Do you still have a truck?

Looks like we both finished on the same day! That first gear is a loooooooooooooooooooong one huh? I was a little un impressed @ first start up and drive, but as the trans "breaks in" it seems to be getting better and better. Did you notice a big drop in performace, or does it feel about the same? Second pulls like a biatch! Seems to have firm shifts and the verter is a new thing to me....kinda strange to drive with it. I must say Hughes did a good job with this trans, I have been on it alot harder than I EVER got on the 60-E and it just keeps takin it!

Congrats on the 80 install!

That's awesome L-Eater! Glad you're happy with it.
So what rear-end gear ratio do you have, and are you happy with it?
I am getting my gears done after my truck is rolling....I do drive on the highway, but some input as to which ones would be good.
3.73s?

My 80E & 6.0 is all in and put together.....just waiting on Allen to send me the pcm to run it.

How bad is the first gear? ...kind of got me scared now.

On the crossmember, I didn't have to do anything to it but flip the brace in the middle around to the other side of the member and weld it back on.....looks completely factory and the trans pan can still come out with the crossbrace on. I will take pics. this weekend. Just by looking at it, it appears as if nothing has even been done as far as the cross brace. That was the look I was shootin' for!
