O.k. so I have a few more questions, and by the way the little video on Youtube on how to change a ls cam is priceless, anyway, here are my questions:
1.) I've read alot about the Comp trunion upgrade kit, do I need this with a mild cam?
2.) Do I need the green oil pump gasket(trucks) versus a red (cars)?
3.) Should I be worried about pushrod length or just order 7.4's, I'm sticking with stock heads right now.
4.) Where can I get or rent a good valve spring tool, I thought at one point someone was making them and selling them on this site.
5.) Can I just use dowel rods to hold lifters up?

1. It's not needed. It's more of an insurance policy.
2. You mean O-ring? You'll probably need the thicker one on a truck. Not sure the color.
3. If using unmilled heads, and standard thickness gaskets, you're good with 7.40 PRs.
4. I just use the little hand held one for the few times I need it.
5. Yes, wooden dowel rods, forget the size.

O.k., thank you, It looks like you can't beat Texas Speed's cam package deal for $589 Any cam you want, Comp 918's or Pac 1218's, and pushrods. And gasket kit which includes new crank bolt for $53. Then get the ls2 chain and sprockets from Yank for $68. So about $700 for all new parts. I just can't bring myself to purchase used valvetrain equipment.

Go with the Pac 1218s.
Don't waste your money on a gasket kit. Buy two water pump gaskets, oil pickup tube O-ring, and balancer bolt. If you've not been inside a LS engine, they're nothing like an old SBC. The "gaskets" are not really gaskets. They are seals. They consist of an aluminum spacer with a rubber seal on both sides. Have no qualms reusing your front cover and valve cover gaskets.
Have no fear going with a used camshaft. It's very common practice with the roller lifters we run.

Personally, I don't like re-using gaskets (except valve cover gaskets since they're easy enough to replace). Rubber compresses and dries out over time...if your engine has over 50k on it I'd spend the extra dough for the cam swap kit for some cheap insurance, but that's just me, I'm ****. Many, many guys have reused their gaskets time and time again without any problems.

I have no personal experience with the cam's that are referenced in this thread, but from the experience that I do have I will say that I wouldn't consider a cam smaller than the TSP 220 for 5.3. We put one in my brothers rig over the summer and the truck runs hard. His truck is an ECSB Z71 with 20x10's, 305/50/20's, 3.73's, and the factory stall. At WOT, there was absolutely NO loss in bottom end; the truck pulls way harder from a dig all the way to 6500. Driving manners improved as well with an improvement in power under the curve pretty much everywhere. I notice a VERY slight lag off idle for maybe 400rpm's, but honestly the power is probably no different than with the stock cam; the improvements in power everywhere else just makes it noticeable. You would probably never even notice it with you 2600 stall. Why not step up to a cam that will still benefit you over stock on the low end, yet pull harder in the mid range and scream up top? If your really worried about it, bump up to 114* LSA to slide the power range down a little bit. You will still have a more noticeable idle than the other cams too.

honestly i think a 212/218 will out shine a 220 cam in a big tire 4x4
More useable power down low and pulls just as hard up top
my truck performs just as good if not better than a truck with a 220 cam lookin at track times
smaller cam better street mannor and useable power
If i am wrong someone correct me...i dont mind

So the Vinci ultra torque will be a little better up top, but a little less down low than the comp 212/218.
The Voodoo 212/218 cam trumps them both down low, but not as strong as the ultra torque up high.
With either the Comp or Voodoo 212/218 will Pac 1218's be to harsh or to much valvetrain noise vs. an ls6 spring???????
