I would thin k if you go t a 6.0 ya would also want to use the 80e Tranny because of the power difference and gearing differences between the 60e and 80e.
If the truck performed to your satisfaction grab a 5.3 Jasper or some other long block rebuild and put it and and be done with internal issues.

To do the repairs to your 5.3 you're going to need to remove the entire top half of your engine. Heads, intake, etc. It's a lot of work but is more cost effective than a 6.0 swap.
