Default 5.3 to a 383 stroker????

Ok from what I have figured out the 5.3 can be bored .120 over to give it a 5.7 liter displacement and allow the use of standard 5.7 liter pistons. If that is possible could you also then put the 4'' stroker crank for the 5.7 liters? If so would you then have a 383? I havn't ever heard of this done and I dont see why it would not work. It seems like more people would keep the 5.3 iron block and bore it over to the 5.7 for the added strength of cast iron, then you could run a bunch of boost in the right application. Am I totally off on this or can it be done?

you probably can but i think it wouldnt be worth the money in machining
it would probably be cheaper to stroke an 5.7 before a 5.3.
and with gen III motors it wouldnt be quite a 383
since an ls1 is only 346CI and a 350 makes 382CI and a355 makes
382.7CI it will be close enough some where near a 381 still close
as far as the 323 thats a long way with machining

The machining is relatively cheap, the stroker crank is a different story though, those things are expensive, guess it would help to give a rock solid bottom end though.

yeah having a solid bottom end is deff. a good idea. whenever trying to
get some serious power. how about just dropping a 6.0 crank in and
leaving the rest the same it should do something
since that is what they did to create a 327 283 block and a 350 crank
so why not a 323 block and a 368 crank

I'm just learning about the new family of engines here so I may be wrong, but aren't the 5.3 and the 6.0 cranks the same, just different bores?

I'm not sure but i think yukon is correct on this, the 6.0 bore is larger thats how they get the extra displacement, not from the crank. Could be wrong though, have to look at the numbers.

Why isn't anyone doing this? Its a hell of a lot cheaper than finding a 6.0 block. The only benefit to the larger block that i can see is if you were going to stroke it for more cubes, if you were going to keep it a 6.0 though, why not just bore and stroke the 5.3. No intial investment other than labor machining.

im not sure if the bore is different of what. what i do know is they take
6.0 and bore them out to 408s or even 421s.

Here .. this will help you out with the displacement figures.

You can get numbers off of the MSN auto thingy.

A ls1 bore is 3.9 inches so with a 4 inch crank it makes 382 c.i. or 6.26 liters, dont know about you guys but that sounds damn good to me! this needs to be researched some more though so if anyone has any thoughts, go ahead.
