Default 5.3 to 6.0?

thinking about switchin from a 5.3 LM7 to a 6.0 LQ4 with all the mods in my sig minus the cam I'm going to run a GT2-3. Would this be a good idea? Let me know your thoughts. One more thing... I don't know for sure if I even have a 5.3 anymore the dealership I bought the truck from put a new engine in after I had it for a week and a half because it started knocking, The old engine had 98,000mi and felt like it had more power than the new engine did.

Thanks in advance

your asking if it's a good idea to increase the size of your engine?

I'd have to say no. But if you already purchased the 6.0 I'd be willing to haul it off for you.

Did you have a tune prior to them replacing the engine? if so then they likely re-flashed you back to stock.

By good idea I mean worth the time/power gains. No tune before the engine swap I only had it a week and a half. With the setup I have now I have 347.2hp and 356.9tq. The tr220 cam is not the best cam for FI So I am going to switch to the GT2-3. What do you guys think The power increases will be. Someone on here has to have a setup thats close to this. By the way Im running 7psi and have 11-1afr

Thanks again

It's well worth the time and cost. I don't have an exact number for the gains but you are increasing the displacement by .7 litres.
Considering everything is a direct swap the only costs involved are engine, pcm tune, oil, gaskets, and antifreeze.

Do it and don't think twice about it. IMO

Everyone on here that doesn't have a 6.0 wants a 6.0

I have been doing some research and have come up with this:

05+ has beefier rods and coated pistons

01+ are almost a direct replacement

All you need to change is the flywheeel and tune and your good to go.

I don't know if this is truely all that has to be done. If it is then I'll be doing this soon. O yeah was wondering if the intake is the same so my injectors will work?

you can use the flywheel from youre 04-5.3 ...you should use evrything off youre 2004 motor....intake /injectors/ oil block off plate... yada yada ...except for the starter ...its a fairley easy swap...of course you have to get it TUNED Period if you want it ti run right and not lean it out ...bigger cubes = more gas needed = more power ..more cubes make more power as to what extent you want I dont know it can be reached easier with more cubes ...when i did a pull on stock 4.8 tunning I went 326 without a tune and we shut it down WAY lean ...havent done one yet with good tunning...

Now IMHO me if I ALREADY had youre set up you did mid 350 's with a front loader I would be OK with that and leave it alone .... 5.3 is an excellent motor... I wouldnt do it ...but iam Old and and Lazy

Check in the Forced Induction section for some threads with numbers.

The engines are Identical aside from whats inside. I'd go with 05+ if I was you. If you get something older make sure it has Aluminum heads. The ones with Iron heads are the ones that have a longer crank IIRC.
