I was looking around on car-part.com to get an idea of engine prices. All the LQ9's in the southwest area are going for around $4500. If I did go the 6.0L route, instead of a H&C combo, would I need to swap out the tranny? This motor will be N/a, possibly a cam and TC swap in future with 6.0L along with a nelson tune along with the exhaust. Would it be better to buy a shortblock and piece together the topend part by part instead of buying a used engine?

My company just bought me a '05 GMC with a 6.0. What are the specs on this engine?

That's pretty damned cheap. I've always thought about getting a 6.0L shortblock and putting my 4.8 heads on it. That way I could have a pretty high CR, and save a few bucks. The only problem is, I never see and LQ4/9 shortblocks forsale, only longblocks! All the cheap ones are really f'd up too. Burnt, high mileage, piston slap etc. Plus the shipping is what would kill you in the price. It's gotta cost at least $100 to ship just a shortblock. :bang"

Just to let you know what you can expect in the 1/4. I did a 4.8L to 6.0L swap a month or so ago, with just the LQ4, LS6 '02cam, and tune (everything else stock) he busted out a 13.4 in the 1/4. Pretty respectable for the cost. The truck was a reg cab '02.
check out hi-wayauto.com , they have complete engines. I just bought one not too long ago, it was a '03 6.0L.

good luck,

I vote for the 6.0. I have ridden in 5.3's and 6.0's with very similar power in similar trucks, the 6.0 will always pull the 5.3 if the power is close. The 6.0 has a better torque curve and builds torque lower in the rpm range and also holds it.
