5.3 to 6.0 swap
Wondering...
Just got a new truck and was thinking of building my FIRST engine for it (to be put in later down the road). Currently has the 5.3L, but wanted to know EVERYTHING that would be involved in swapping in a 6.0L.
Am I wrong in thinking it wouldnt be much more than pulling the original engine, putting in the new one, and swapping in a new PCM????? I know some of you have done this swap. but cant seem to find anything when I search the site.
Also, since I have NEVER built any engine myself...what would be some good books in general, and some books that would be directly related to the 5.3L and the 6.0L???? Need to do a LOT of reading before I ever attempt this. Especially since I will be "trying" to build a high hp motor.

Re: 5.3 to 6.0 swap
From what I have heard you don't even have to swap out PCMs. I have also heard that you should do the cam swap while the motor is out, or you will have to disconnect a lot of **** to do it with it in the truck. LS1Edit is the program that lets you custom tune your truck to whatever mods you want to do. You should look into getting it. It is a must have for a high hp build up.

Re: 5.3 to 6.0 swap
The 6.0 will bolt right in and run fine on the 5.3 pcm. It is probably the best bang for the buck. I picked up 40 hp and 50 ft lbs at the wheels with nothing but a engine swap. I say go for it-my truck was a couple weeks old and had about 1400 miles, I think when I strapped on the blower and I haven't looked back since. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

I never really started modifying it much, cause I knew I would be trading it in quickly. So, that was a LOOONNNNNGGGGG time to deal with when I love going FAST. LOL

I will have to adjust the pcm with LS1Edit or something similar though right? Also know I'm gonna have to beef up other parts of the drivetrain.
