Default 5.3 to 6.2 engine swap 2001

I have a 2001 Chevrolet 1/2 ton truck with a 5.3. I have read some of the swap over answers but none specific to my year model truck. Could anyone tell me what exactly it will take to make this conversion work? I would like to use my transmission out of the 5.3 also.

Buy a lq4, bore it to 4.065, buy ls3/l92 pistons put it back together and swap it in. No computer boxes to mess with and if done right should cost less than $1500 for a freshly rebuilt iron 6.2

Thanks for the info. I think this is the route I am going to go.

Thats not smart advice especially since not every 6.0 block can safely go 4.065 since some have been known to split a wall at 4.030

so far I've had 3 different blocks sonic checked and all of them had more than enough clearance 2 LQ4's 1 LY6.

I have not seen a 6.0 split a wall and my builder has some at .80 over I think the odds of it not being able to go is slim to none

theres been spilt 6.0s since the beginning one of the founders on this site for performance split a 6.0 block, if you dig deep enough youll see plenty

hell flaco back in his 414 days split quite a few

Ive had a 6.0 in my possession with a split wall

Ok. I finally have my 6.0. It's a LQ4 from a 2000 3/4 ton truck. It has cast iron heads on it. I won't be punching it to a 6.2 afteral but will be boring if it needs it.My question is would any of you change the heads? and if so to what? I will be using the GM LS Hot cam kit p/n 12480033.Also what type pistons would you recommend? I will be using this as a daily driver. Just want the extra power for a little grudge racing time to time.

If you have an iron headed 6.0, it has the funky oddball crank designed for the 4l80, what trans does your truck currently have??

You should have a 4l60, i dont know that the crank will allow a 4l60 to bolt to it.....
