That cam listed in your first post is a big one. Not sure I'd go that big in a 5.3 motor. What trans do you have in your truck? Do you already have bolt-ons like headers and intake?

Not sure about the "best" vendor, but I've ordered stuff several times from Texas Speed. They are reliable, ship fast, and their parts are competitively priced.

236/242 is much too large, its not even in the right zip code.

Sell the one thats in it and buy one thats better suited for your application. YOu have to tell us about your setup first though. More than a 5.3L with ported heads.....

CNC heads? hand ported heads? have they been on a flow bench, you can really screw up heads attempting to port if you dont know what your doing.

after discussing with my father who also agrees that the cam is way to powerful and the wife telling me I cant go all out on the build if im going to build my charger and camaro so im just going to go with a bored out block, upgrade the stock heads with upgraded springs/valves with port job. rest of engine will be stock with exception of the dual exhaust already on the truck and the a cold air intake and throttle body spacer. will keep transmission stock or maybe add a shift kit. what i have is an 01 silverado halfton 4x4 with 6 inch fabtech lift. Just want to add some more torque and horsepower since it has 170k miles on it. that way when the engine goes or when i complete new engine she is nice and new. transmission is also stock. thinking of adding 3.73 gears in the rear also, however, i do a lot of highway driving and the rpm's are perfect right now. really appreciate the info and as always im all ears.

hmmm after looking at texas speed i can get a 347 rotating assemble, head and cam package plus bolts ect.. for about 3k. Not sure how much difference i will see with the rotating assembly compared to the head and cam package and .030 bore on the block. I can justify the heads and cam package to the wife but not sure if i can convince myself or her to up the other 1500.00 for the rotating assembly your input guys plzzzz! head cam package and rotating assembly 3k vs. head cam package plus bore job 1550 or so. ballpark figure on horse power and torque for both setups???

If your current crank and rods are in good shape, you can probably save some cash by just having them reconditioned at the machine shop. Might invest in ARP rod bolts if you want, that's sort of the weak point of the bottom end. Since you're boring the cylinders, you'll need new pistons. Forged would be really nice if you can swing the extra cost. With that many miles on the motor, you'll probably want a new timing chain and gear set, plus a new oil pump. Those things will give you a solid bottom end. Then you can figure out what to do with the heads and cam. Well, except you kind of need to know what heads you'll be getting before getting the pistons (to determine the compression ratio).
