Default 5.3 cam setups

Ive been doing alot of reading on everybodys cam choices an I see alot of people are going 220 and larger. My motor is going NA Patriot stage 2 heads and cam are up next. Ive got a 3K stall. For those with the larger cams is it a dog up until 2500 rpm, I dont like racing every where I go.
What would be your recommendations for my setup?
How is mileage effected?
This is a daily driver, I like loepy idles. what would you reccmmend

I would consider the TR224 on a 112lsa.

I LOVED my 226/.535/112 cam. Once tuned it idled great with a nice lumy bounce that made people at stoplights stare. It never faltered or stalled (once tuned) and had nice power rigth around 3800rpm or so up passed 6000rpm. I ran 97mph at the track which was pretty good for an ext.cab 4x4.

If I were to be sucked in by the monkey see/do police, I'd be more inclined to do a TSP 220.

It uses a more aggressive Comp lobe, which will give better driveability. It's cheaper & will offer more power.

TSP 220 $389
TR 220 $429

Ive always wondered this:
what is considered good drivability? If it idles isnt that good drivability? or is it more related to everyday rpm range and where the cam makes its power.
Which cam will give me the most from 2000 to 6000?

Good drivabiltiy can be more related to a stock lope. Less misfires,...less overlap...less reversion

No idle searching, or dying. trouble free driving.

exc...

Good drivability to me is a cam that with proper tuning will allow me to drive the truck like I did when it was 100% stock without any worry of dying, searching idle or surging. Some cams can be made to idle but have problems when giving throttle then coming to a quick stop like in traffic.

Lope to me is non-issue as long as the tuner can correct the above mentioned problems.

When we first installed my cam I had to drive with 2 feet to keep it running and it surged like a ****! After a good street tune the thing drove like stock and I never had an issue...

Tuning is KEY! If you don't have a good tuner around then stick with a milder cam.

Call Futral Motorsports, tell them what you want and they can hook you up. They use cammotion lobes, supposed to be the best you can get
