Whats up guys, ive got a 5.3 goin in my s10 this winter and im lookin into some mild motor combo's. I would like your insight on a few things.

I have a victor jr. carb intake with a Demon 650dp on the motor. Next comes a cam, im looking into several but my question is what kind of power am i looking at with a stock cam and just the carb intake? It will get a cam eventually, but it may be run for a short period of time prior to that on stock valve train components.

A little info about the combo incase you were curious.

1991 s10
carbed 5.3
manual VB th350
3k stall
3.42's with a powertrax
drag radials


The cams im looking into are the TR220, hotcam (mainly for the price) and possibly an ls6 cam simply for driveability reasons.

how are you gonna fit that intake under the hood?

same way i fit my old one. Big cowl hood, lsx's typically sit a little lower in the bay than Gen I's too.

i truck intake won't hardly fit though...unless like you say a big cowl hood, but those tend to look pretty stupid

I dont care if it looks stupid, i need one, their is no way around it...unless i drive around without a hood. Its a drag truck anyway so i dont really care.

I'd go with a TR224 at least if its a dedicated drag truck man... look into the TR228R as well, if its properly tuned, even with a carb, I think it'd be plenty driveable.

A stock 5.3l engine with a carb intake will make about 325fwhp and around 335ft/lbs of torque. A 224º duration cam will add about 65-75hp with the stock heads.

Thats exactly what i wanted to hear, thanks guys, i will deffinatly keep everyone updated. I did alot of sheet metal work on the truck today, i will start a progress thread for it.
