5.3 crank in a 4.8 block?

5.3 crank in a 4.8 block?
Everyone keeps dissrespecting 4.8s,I'd like to pose a couple of questions.If the pistons are the same bore and the piston tops are flat vs. dished in a 5.3 and the rods are the same.Will a 5.3 crank work with the 4.8 rods and pistons without hitting the head?Talk about a cheap high compression build up.You could have a 5.3 liter motor with factory high compression for the cost of a crank kit.Has anyone done the research to see if the parts will work?

I would need to know the compresson height of the piston and the rod length of the two diff motors. The stroke of the 5.3 is .354 inches longer which is about 3/8" longer. So without knowing the comp height and the length of the rod, its hard to tell.
After rereading your post, it would not work if you used the 4.8 rods as they are longer, therefore sticking the piston out of the hole 3/8" for just the crank swap and however much more the 4.8 rods are longer also.

They have the same pistons the stroke is the only difference and the rods make up for it not the pistons.

this is what i got from sshotrods, john:

sounds like it likes more area, or more cc in the chamber. sorta like throwing more gas on the flame.

I worked on this on the way home. What could be done is a high revving short stroke motor with a large crown best for n2o. You would take a 4.8/5.3 block, 4.8 crank, 5.3 rods, and a custom piston. Actually it would probably be a very heavy piston since the crown would have to be very thick due to the length of the 5.3 rod. So in reality that really isn't feasible either due to weight. Its possible but it would cost a little more.
