Default 5.3 needs more torque

Hey guys I'm trying to get ready for this summer and pulling my RV and was wondering what can I do to help pull better. I've already got a W4M tune, exhuast, and intake. I also am running 33's with 3.73's. I'm really not wanting to change gears. I was thinking about going electric fans and also a cam. Would this get me what I'm wanting?

No it would not. With 33" tires you really need 4.10 gears. No amount of cam or fans or CAI or whatever other piddly stuff is going to make any noticeable difference. I did a cam and a few other do-dads with my Avalanche but other than the Radix, changing from 3.73's to 4.10's was easily the best off-the-line & pulling & towing performance move I made. Night and day difference. An added bonus was an increase in towing capacity.

I agree. With a 33" tire, you could go 4.30, instead of 4.10 for just a tiny bit more go. Doesn't sound like much of a difference but, when I went from a 265/70-16 tire to a 255/70-16 tire, it was a noticable difference. Or you could just jump on the bandwagon and do a 6.0.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. For us 4WD truck owners, that's expensive...but it may be the least expensive way to get the extra grunt for towing. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do!

Smaller tires will do it too, but if you want to keep those big honkers then at least 4.10's...actually if you tow a lot you might be better off with 4.56's!

Bottom line, if you knew you were going to tow and have 33" tires you never should have bought a truck with 3.73 gears. The only way to make up for it at this point is to swap gears.

Even a Radix (expensive and the next best thing for low-end grunt) isn't going to fully solve your issues. With my Avalanche I bolted on the Radix and that still did not overcome the limitations of 3.73 gears, and this was with 32" tires. I had to swap to 4.10's.

As has already been suggested, you may want to even consider 4.56's.
