Never posted here, but i figured you guys would know a little more about this...


Will ls6 parts work on a 5.3 vortec? like if i wanted to use a ls6 heads, and cam, would they work properly on my 5.3?

Im not only curious to see if this will work, but what kind of gains would i see

yes most things will work, essentially the 4.8,5.7,6.0 are all the same except crank and the 5.7 has aluminum block. Cam will work in your truck, when you start switching things around you need to make sure your other parts of the engine are compatible. I am sure you will get alot of answers here. I do know alot of guys with the 5.7 put the 5.3 heads on their engine to raise compression. oh and welcome.

well, thats what i was thinking, is some of you guys with a stock 5.3 could tell me if these parts would just pop-on and add HP without any yap.

Well without the yap, welcome first. Second, yes you can put LS6 heads and cam on a 5.3. Not sure what it will do to the compression, but I know it won't raise it like you would doing the opposite, putting 5.3 heads on a 5.7. Most parts are the same, unless it has to do with bore/stroke or heads obviously. Just with a LS6 cam, some are seeing around 30 hp increase with no tuning.

Probably going to be doing a install in a couple weeks. I still need to get an oil pump, and adj timing chain. My install will be all at once so I won't be able to tell you just the cam. It will be as follows: 01 ZO6 Cam/Springs, Advanced 4*, ASP crank pulley, LT1 fans, 93 Nelson Tune. I will be posting time diff's, then a couple weeks after that will be a Yank TT3K and a set of Dynatech LT's with Hiflow cats. I am hoping for atleast a 1sec drop, so we'll see.
There are others on here, that will let you know how it feels not advanced. I think I will be one of the only ones advanced. So let them chime in for you as far as how it feels.

okay, so are there any heads i could use to get a little extra power? what all would i have to swap to use a ls6 cam?

probably springs and retainers. you would probably need to recalibrate shifts. Luke how extreme do you want to go. Do you have the parts already or are you just getting idea. I will have a cam ls1 out of ss in the next coupel of days if interested. Is that your truck in the pictures(sweet).
