5.3L mods

Well thanks for steering me (definate newby) in the right direction. I thought about it, and I'd like to spend up to around 12,500. If it is under then great!
And as far as goals, I do a little bit of hauling (dirtbikes, quads in a trailer) and need some more power for that, and then all around more power for showing off. I do about 85%-15% to 90%-10% (on road% - off road%). As far as horsepower I have the aluminum block with exhaust and intake so maybe 335 now... and I want anywhere from 450- 800 maybe.
I think I want to stay away from nitrous.
Thanks again for the help!

With $12,000 you can do a lot. If you have that kind of budget, then obviously you need to figure out what form of Forced induction you will want to do. We know what you are gonna want to spend, and you can do pretty much anything you want in the FI area. If you go turbo, your exhaust and cam and certain other things will be different that say a Magnacharger or a similar supercharger. So now that you have a starting point, SEARCH and figure out what Induction is best for you, then we can go from there as to mods on the truck and in what order.

STS turbo kit with upgraded turbo and intercooler on 10lbs boost
4l80e swap
z06 cam
PI 3200 converter(to get you out of the hole with that 4l80e)
4.56's
Bolt ons
Meth kit
Not a bad way to spend 12 grand
OR
keep the truck stock
buy ls1 f-body with high miles-$5000
headers
tune
cam
bolt ons
Not a bad way to spend $9 grand and have an 11 second car. LOL

For that amount of money I would think it would get you to the limits of a what a stock rotating assembly can give you which is around 500 rwhp give or take certain applications. Anything more than that your gonna need a built engine with forged internals and that will get you past your budget. I'd say get a nice strong and built 4L60E (Lvl-5 FLT), look at FI applications that suit your needs, everything will suit what you do with your truck, some are partial to S/C others to turbo's so it's all opinion at this point. The tranny and FI should cost you around $8,000 which will net you more hp then all the bolt ons you can find and be around the same price. If your doing your own labor then use the rest on a set of heads and a cam which are probably the most important mods to compliment FI.

I'd be able to do the easy stuff myself, throwing on a supercharger, or headers, fan, etc...but cams and ecu mods and what not I'd have someone do. I was looking at the magna charger system, it seems like a good deal
