5.7/L31 peepz in here please...
Had the intake gaskets redone, changed the fuel filter, and dropped in a colder t-stat. Coolant used to 'tween 11-12 o'clock, now it's a bit below the line so like at like 10 o'clock... Truck runs great but it seems like that would be a big drop. Any idea what that line is on a scanner? Before I fixed the gaskets I had to add coolant every other week so my assumption was that the truck ran a little hot.

I dropped in a colder t-stat on my 4.8L (160*) and it was about at 200 but runs closer to 170-175 now, so thats about a 30 degree drop if the factory gauges are accurate. Same thing when I had my 99' 5.7L Tahoe, the colder stat helped drop the temps alot. I also assume that the gasket helped lower the temps too since it seems like it was leaking before. I personally dont see anything to worry about.

Not a 5.7 but, I got the same results as above with my 160 thermostat. It dropped temps around 30 degrees or so. My guage went WAY down after the cold thermostat install, probably dropped a couple of hours.

Mine used to be mideway between the midpoint line and the 210 line. Now it's below the midpoint line, do you know what I mean? If I read the gauge I'm at 150-170, and I can't believe it's at as low as 150...

Well the gauges aren't really accurate because i have a 160 stat in it and it showes like 180 or so. When hooked up to the computer it only reads 166*. When it at the 100* mark that is really 160 for some reason.

Coo, it's probably okay then. How would I be able to figure out if the car was not going into closed loop? My friend said it won't go into closed loop but he's only basing this on a car he worked on five years ago.

I don't trust the gauge at all. I have a electric fans since I have the 383, and I was trying to dial in the proper temperature. The truck was running around ~150's according to ATAP, the gauge was telling me around 10 o'clockish.
I think the next thing is changing back to the stock fuel injection, as this separate computer crap is for the birds...
