I've heard that WIX is rated below the AC Delco oil filter.

Over in the internal section K&N filters are a favorite, I am switching to it on the next oil change the number is HP 2006. It is the long filter. I use 5w30 Mobil 1 but have been thinking of 0w40 for the next change, they say that thes types of motors like alittle thicker oil. GC 0w30 is also a favorite over there.

You live in the cold. That's why 0w oils are used there. Here down in Houston, TX I use 10w-30 all year long.

The oil light is helpful for most people, but I'd like to see what percentage it's at.
Nope sorry

There is a GM PID available that shows % oil life remaining. I don't know what other scan software packages support it, but EFI Live does. This works on an 02 truck that I scanned recently.

Default just my opinion

sometimes i think folks try and get waaaaaaaaaaaay too technical when it comes to oil changes and oil filters. regular dino oil changed at a 3000 interval with the cheapest filters you can find is not going to hurt your motor. some folks use synthetics, long life filters,,etc etc but really,,,in all actuality,,,dino and a regular filter are just fine. yes,,i know you can go 10k plus on certain synthetics with certain filters,,,but piece of mind knowing that fresh oil and a fresh filter are in my truck is better than wondering if that fancy filter and synthetic fluid is holding up. what do i use,,,during the race season, i use mobil 1 synthetic and what ever filter is the cheapest at the time,,,why synthetic,,,it gives ya a hair more power ,,,thats about all,,the rest of the year,,,regular dino oil,,and the cheap filter,,,,obviously different grades as far as weather concerns is important. but considering lots and lots of folks use reg oil on a flat tappet and/or solid lifter cam with friction type rocker go hundreds of thousands of miles tells me its ok,,,,with our ls based motors with roller cams and roller lifters its really not that big of a deal.,,,,,not trying to flame anyone,,,so everyone just relax. you can think of my opinion like this,,,,,,,,,,,,,if you go deer hunting,,,a 30.06 will definetally do the job,,,,,,,,,but a .50 cal will too,,,but do you really need the .50 ???,,,,,have a great day folks,,late

The way I see it:

I plan on keeping this truck for the rest of my life. I'm going to put the best oil in there.

I've said it before, I decidied to go with Mobil 1 because the LS1 in the Vette calls for it, and since our engines are LS1-based, I figure Mobil 1 can't hurt
