5w30 10w30 10w40???? which one is best?
My truck calls for 5w30 from the factory. I am running castrol syntec 5w30 in it and have been for the past three oil changes. I have a RCSB 5.3. Is the 5w30 the ideal weight to use or is there another weight that is better for the truck? Take into consideration, i live in Texas and it is a little warmer than most other places. let me know guys!! THANKS!!

I would run Mobil 1, Amsoil or Redline. In the winter run the 5-30 and the summer run 10-30 or 10-40. I live in California and in the winter i run Amsoil 5-30 and in the summer i run Amsoil 10-30. I hope this helps.

I like the syntec myself. I was thinking of trying another brand like royal purple or amsoil but the shop i spoke with told me the syntec is good stuff and if i have already been using it, there is no need to change oils. I will probably switch to 10w30 next oil change since we are coming into warmer weather now. Is all that talk about engines locking up from the oil being to thin true? I wouldnt think that would be likely to happen if the recommended oil is being used.
Thanks for the info so far guys!
