6.0 Buildup - Your advice wanted.

I know better than to post these pics, but here goes anyway. Have mercy on me, lol. I've never seen, let alone ported a set of heads before. My goal was to simply clean up casting lines/flaws, blend the bowls where the factory bored down into them for the seats and left big ridges, taper the casting around the valve guides, and just smooth out the casting finish. I removed VERY little material. The finish is much smoother than what these pics appear, since they're magnified much more than you would see just by looking at them. My goal here wasn't to create a set of $2500 heads, but just a general cleanup before installing them. I'll be lapping the valves before final assembly.
Here's the process I used. Grind with a 1/4" ball nosed carbide single-cut burr, sand with a coarse cartridge roll, sand with a fine cartridge roll, polish with a coarse buff, polish with a fine buff.
I'm open to suggestions.

I see that you remembered the oil diverter barbell, good call I've noticed a lot of guys running the Melling oil pump these days, what's the deal with it? Is it supposed to be an upgrade over the stocker, of just a stock replacement? Any price advantage?

I always grab two gallons and thats more than enough if you want to get real technical I think you will need about 6-7 quarts but I always get a bit more because you never know how much is going to drain out of the trans cooler. Also depends on how you have your cooler lines ran too. Took 9 quarts for my 60e with an already "primed" converter and dry -6 lines to a 40K cooler.
What process did you use to lap the valves? And where the heck did you find the oil diverter and freeze plug? I had to steal them from another build for my current motor.
Im not convinced the Melling pumps are really needed. My current LQ4 runs 60-65 at idle and at cruise runs 70. This is with a stock pump, I couldnt believe the pressure I had. Most of the motors Ive worked on/built with simply a shimmed and ported pump will net you ~10psi lower than what Im seeing on my motor.

I just applied the compound as shown above and spun the tool between the palms of my hands. You can feel the grit work it's way out, and I continued a little after that to get a smooth polish.

I hear ya. I read all the lower oil pressures people are getting, and I've got 50-55 at idle, and 65 at 3000 on my stock 5.3. Maybe I'd be better off with just a new stock LS6 pump?

Check out my thread in the project section, I posted a video of the gauge cluster and you can see how high it runs, Ive checked it with two different clusters. When I go through this thing in a year or so Ill port it a little but I dont think Im even going to bother shimming this thing. I dont think I want any more oil pressure than I have.
