I really hope you didn't destroy the trans pump when you pulled it like that. Its been known to happen.

Guess I'm late.

I don't know what the tranny looks like inside to understand how that would happen. Anyway to inspect it now? I tried hard not to put too much force on the shaft.

It doesn't take much. Just enough to break the little pump ring inside the pump. Besides removing the tranny its not too hard to fix just a new pump.

Could the pump just be pulled from the front of the trans right now and inspected?

So do I take my chances and put it back together? Or, do I drop the pan, remove the TC lockup solenoid, and pull the pump out the front for inspection?

In my case I broke the pump rotor ring, but as long as you can use a very thin screwdriver to stick in there and spin it by hand and the torque converter seats properly it should be ok...

At the very least I'd replace the front pump to converter seal, and with the seal out you'll get a better view of the pump

I did pull the front seal. The pump turns freely and easily. I'm hoping that I got lucky. I was able to find a seal and lockup o-ring. Matter of fact...I'M DONE!!! Yup, that's right. All that's left is installing the intake tube reducer once it comes in, connecting hose from the front of the passenger's side valve cover, and installing the PCM when it arrives. It took about 8 hours to install the engine and wrap everything up.

As far as connecting the hose from the passenger's side valve cover, there's what appears to be a block-off screw in the top of the t-body. I'm thinking that all I need is a fitting to screw in there and connect the hose to it.

We got one BIG scare. I was dumping antifreeze in it when it started just pouring out the back of the engine. I was horrified. It turned out to be nothing more than a plug left out near the back of the passenger's side head. This is where the coolant temp sensor would be if the heads were swapped from side to side. I had simply missed taking it from the 5.3 when swapping parts.

A BIG thanks goes out again to my brother Brian and good friend Paul. They're the ones that made this swap possible. It was awesome to be under the truck or setting in the engine compartment and ask for this, and ask for that. It made the install so much easier. I'm still so soar and tired I can hardly move, lol. This is hard work fo ra 42 year old

My wife really got a kick out of this

Here it is all wrapped up. It's a real shame that pretty orange is all covered up
