Glad I happened across this thread. Your setup is pretty much the same as mine. I have bought the 243 heads, starting to pick up the other parts.
2001 GMC C3
LQ4
243 heads
TB converter
TBSS intake with 90mm DBW throttle body
LS7 lifters
LS2 timing chain
haven't made up my mind on the oil pump yet, but looking at the info in this thread.
I'm really leaning away from milling the heads, but I might have them cleaned up, bowl & valve job. What does that typically run?

The 243 heads I bought only have 25K miles on them, so I don't plan on doing a valve job. I am delivering the heads disassembled to the shop. They will dip and clean them for $60. They're going to mill them for $80. They're also going to check the valve guides, etc.

I think the 3200 Tc is too hi and agree with @ 2600. get some Harland Sharp rockers if u want the best, honestly, only ever heard good things about the stockers. Personally, I'd spend all my cash on the valve train as thats where most of the performance is usually left behind. get the length checker as mentioned, but the cam is gonna be a function of the valves and flow of the heads, as much as the springs will be dictated by the cam. Spend LOTS of time on this part of the setup...I didnt!

I pick up the shortblock tomorrow. I'll be decarboning the pistons, and giving it a general cleanup. I also plan on pulling one main cap and one rod cap. Which ones should I pull? Any concerns with disturbing things? I understand I'll need to reassemble with new rod bolts. Are the main bolts torque to yield as well?
