I'm also curious why not advance was ground in for help getting your heavy truck moving?

I run the 918's with no issues. I have for 30k miles and my cams aggressive.

If you are concerned about spring breakage run a dual for extra insurance.

There are a lot of guys running Comp 918 with no issues, but then again, there are a few who have had issues...a few is a few too many to me. I've only heard of 1 PAC 1218 spring breaking, and the jury isn't out yet whether or not the spring was at fault. PAC used to supply springs for Comp, but Comp wanted a larger profit margin so started to seek vendors overseas with inferior products. In the mean time, PAC is still making the same proven spring that has a great track record.

Not trying to knock the spring that you're running, I'm glad that they're working out for you, but if I were spring shopping (which I am, only "window shopping" since I'm broke), it wouldn't be a tough choice between the spring that is proven with the same formula for years versus the spring that was the lowest bidder that may or may not fail...especially since they're the same price, actually the Comp's may cost a little more...

The Pac 1218s are already bought. Actually, I need to go get a money order sent out!

I'm surprised that they didn't grind any advance into that cam, like 2* or 4*...I'm sure that it will still pull like a monster though, I really like those specs...very similar to the TrickFlow cam that I was looking at (which is ground by Comp: 220/224 .575/.575 112...not sure about the advance).
I am concerned about that as well. Now I'm wondering if I need an adjustable timing set. I need to know now so that I can get it ordered.

Now how about advancing, or not advancing that cam?

If you advanced it 2 to 4*, it would help you down low, but with the right converter, I'd think that you could run it straight up. Did you tell Comp you combo when you ordered the cam? I'd give them a call and question the no advance issue...

I bought this cam used. I liked the specs. Straight up might be the best option. I just don't know. I'll be running a Yank Pro Truck 258mm 3200 RPM convertor.

I'd try it straight up, for ease of installation, especially since you already have the timing chain and gears. The extra advance ground in helps down low, and theoretically your 3200 converter should cover that.

Let's look at it like this. What advance, if any, is ground into competitors cams like a TR220 or TSP220?
