Question 6.0 cam in a 5.3?

Hey, New to the forum, I have an 06 silverado 5.3 with flowmaster exhaust, aem cold air, bbk 80MM throttle body, hypertech max energy programmer, and these things definately upped the power, but I still crave more . . .
I heard from someone that putting a 6.0 L stock cam in a 5.3 L actually makes more horsepower than a 6.0L engine. Is this true?? and if so has anyone done it?

100% accurate, but you'll need a superchips tuner. The Hypertech isn't compatible with the 6.0 cam.

I am guessing that the guy that wanted to sell you the 6.0 cam for $500 told you that??

Scott, you're wrong here. The Hypertech III with Supertune IS compatible with the 6.0 cam. And I have been told on seperate occasions that Superchips charges extra for the 6.0 cam tune. But either way, the 5.3 turned into an animal. Destroyed my 2nd cousin's-sister's '80 Z28 in the 1/4.

Basically what all the nice people are trying to say is...you have alot to learn...and ill be honest, they took it easy on you!

I dont even know why im going to help you out...This is by far the worst newb thread i have seen in a while.

1. The two motors pretty much share the same cam aspects...not a complete match, but so close the gain would not be noticeable.

2. The person who told you a 5.3 could make the same power as a 6.0 with just a Stock cam swap is an idiot.

3. If you want to start making power that is Real, and Very noticeable look into a set of long tube headers, and a good flowing exhaust, then get yourself a good tune from an actual tuner using efi live, or HP tuners.

If your looking to do a cam swap do your research ,there is a search button at the top...do not start a thread asking a question unless you have used that button first, you will get bashed harder then redneck in compton...(i dont think thats too racist?)

Scott needs to be made a mod, this shows he has learned to control his temper

lol yall had me scratchin my head for a second with all the positive post on here..anyways..
if your gonna go through the trouble in tearing apart your engine you might as well get an aftermarket cam while your in there.. alot of quotes i got for labor cost alot more than the cam kit it self.. and even if you do the swap your self your saving all that money so you might as well spend it towards a cam you wont regret. comp cams has alot of great mild very streetable cams under .550 lift and under 220 duration.. if you want something a lil more agressive check out thunderracing.com if u want something even MORE agressive check out texasspeed.com they tend to run more lift on there cams

ALSO sell the programmer and get a costum tune..nothing beats a custom tune.. average price is bout 250-300 for the tune..

and forgot to mention summitracing.com as a good dealer for comp cams
